This morning I received a note from a fellow author, seeking donations of books to a veteran’s hospital in Indianapolis. I was reminded once again of the role books play in our lives, and just how powerful a story bound between paper covers can be. A book can soothe a troubled spirit, evoke a laugh, calm a fear, inspire forgiveness, spark an idea. A book can take us lands away, at least for a while. I thought, too, about one of my favorite quotes from Abraham Lincoln: “my best friend is the man who’ll get me a book I ain’t read.”
I disagree with Honest Abe on some points, but I agree with him on the importance of books. And with Emily Dickinson, whose quote is the title of this post. That’s why I’m happy to offer a final two copies of my new book, EVERY PERFECT GIFT as part of my 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway.
